Note that for pre-Posix shells, the number of forks doubles in those
loops (but the quadratic counting is not present there either); for
practical cases that will lead to a slow-down with those shells.

For these kind of dramatic improvements, I think that the users should be paying a much higher fee. I propose that the fee be increased to 35% more than they are paying today.

I do not see anything wrong with the patch.  Please apply it.
