I sent it to address@hidden So you can see it in the
archives. Follow links from the home page if you don't know where the
archives are:

    http://sources.redhat.com/automake/

If you are using sources as your cvs repository then the patch is
already in, and you can just `cvs update' immediately.

Using automake sources that have been cvs-upped to include the patch that Tom mentions above, I can build an automake on cygwin that a) passes all tests except lex3, pr9, and pr86. This is as good as any automake to date, AFAIK -- including 1.4 and 1.4-pX. I'm a happy camper. b) allows me to build a cygwin-libtool (from Robert's heavily modified sources, with a modified ld(*)) that passes all tests except build-relink, build-relink2, and quote. (dryrun also failed the first time, but when I reran it, the test passed). This too is as good as anybody has reported on cygwin. Again, I'm a happy camper.

Finally, I used my new automake (and a new autoconf -- 2.52), my new libtool, and my new patched ld -- and was able to cleanly(**) build a libtoolized, static AND DLL libiconv that passed all of its internal tests. Way COOL!

(*) modified ld supports Paul Sokolovsky's auto-imports patch
(**) okay, since the libiconv maintainer included his own HACKED version of autoconf and HACKED versions of acgeneral.m4/acspecific.m4, I did have to muck around with configure.in and stuff, as well as update from 2.13 autoconf usage to 2.52 usage. Basically, so it would use my installed version of autoconf...but the actual dll-building went quite smoothly. I'm a VERY happy camper.
