The Sparc linker understands this implicitly.  Ick.
It's not my idea.

No, Solaris does not.  I did not say they were in the same result directory.
I said they had different names.  I should have said, "different
_path_ names".

If that is what you wanted to do.  OTOH, if you have two programs
using the same library, one written to run as a 32 bit process
the other as a 64 bit one, ....

I am willing to accept that libtool may not be the right place,
but without a better suggestion ....

I know it is possible.  I am already doing that with hand
crafted make files myself.  I noticed the issue when I discovered
I needed to link my AutoOpts library with a 32 bit program and
also a 64 bit program.  My solution was to do a full build,
install, blow away the build dirs, reconfigure as a 64 bit build,
build and hand copy the desired library into the desired
destination.  Then I wrote my cheeky, "there's gotta be a better
way" note.

Yeah.  There it is.  That is a better articulation of what I
was asking for :-).
