Convenience libraries using MSVC

Can convenience libraries be made to work when using libtool with
Microsoft's cl?

libtool uses lib to build the convenience library. But then when it
comes time to add the objects in the convenience library to the main
library, libtool tries to run "ar x" against the .lib, which fails.
