Not necessarily so.  Since is a standard system library in
Solaris 9, it is found by default.  A -R is not required unless you
want it to use yours rather than the system's equivalent.

Note that the -L and -R options are quite different.  One is an
argument used by the linker while the other provides an argument to  I don't know that automatically looks in subdirectories.
Perhaps not.
