You mean an option to the libtool script?  Sounds ok.  I wouldn't
think it'd need to be an actual configure option like --enable, since
it's the developers who would set it up rather than a user.

In fact perhaps it'd be enough just to have a macro in configure.in,
to be called before AC_PROG_LIBTOOL, which would establish what was
wanted for a particular project, if anything.
