Indeed.  The link-loader follows the NEEDED of shared libraries it loads
and loads *their* dependencies as well.

Are you sure about that?!  Solaris 9 here doesn't.

Nowhere near that recent.  Linux's ELF link-loader has, from what I
recall, *always* done it.  You'd have to go back to before ELF, I
suspect.
