Maybe you should be trying 2.2 since support for the Solaris compiler 
has been redone so that linking is via the C++ compiler for C++ code. 
In spite of a few known bugs (many fixed now), the 2.2 version is much 
better than preceding versions due to its exhaustive test suite and 
quite a few years more development.
