Ok, it's much worse than I thought.  The early history is pretty much
messed up by cvsps, which has the tendency to put revisions in the wrong
order when commits with the same commit message are very close to each
other.  Since almost all of the initial import to CVS was commited with
no commit message, there were many opportunities for cvsps to get it
wrong, unfortunately.
