http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2653 Thankyou for your explanation, of course your example c( d~d) is nice and clear but nevertheless there would be no real difference to c(d(d)) in practice indeed that's what it would look like on the printed page a slur across three notes inside which two notes which are the same have a small slur tying them together. Are you saying that in the tradition of printing music these marks have been defined as subtly different or have lilypond coders made this decision?
