Just a quick response for now: it's not that they are translated, but that  
they are generated. To be more specific: pot files are generated templates  
and po files add translations. Strings to be translated in po files come  
from pot templates and therefore they are generated.

Could your gnages be tracked to the source of pot files?

Let me spend more time on this and look at more detail if it is necessary.
