I would consider that some kind of 'documentation' (possibly in a new  
tracker with some example or explanation) might be in order from reading  
this?

Note: The MIDI section is a bit of a mess anyway at the moment, and I am  
planning on tidying it up (I don't understand any of the technical aspects  
of MIDI code, but just reading that section as a general LilyPond user, I  
can see that it could be better re-ordered).
