I misread the guide, you don't need to install the sendmail package (don't  
do it). Your default MTA, such as Exim or Postfix, is much better. However  
they are usually configured on desktop to work only locally, so just for  
testing purposes use <youruser>@localhost as value of announceList.

You'll see a message about the email being sent:

Then you can read it launching 'mail' on a terminal.

This is an example of the default email, but it can be configured to look  
good. I can work on this if there's interest in it:
