Probably that the lowest part of the snippet is drawn using
Postscript without specifying a TeX box (invisible) of
corresponding size and location. This means that neither
TeX nor dvips knows that something is typeset that low.
If this assumtion is true it also means that the pedal stuff
will not be taken into account when determining the vertical
score line spacing neither.
