This feature already exists for emacs[1].
François Pinard -- I'm not sure he reads this list -- has started
working on a multi-editor version (emacs and vim), in python. What is
working so far is karaoke (playback on a buffer, region or line with
the cursor following the notes as they are played), which can also
read chords. After a brief halt we will go on working on it.
