Do you mean that

  \markup \column { { a b } { c d } }

=>

  \markup \column { a b c d }

ie { } without command before are also flattened?

That's what I did in a first attempt, but I looked for something else
precisely to be able to group lines without explicitely using \line.

(this is what is done now)
