'make install' fails with latest cvs version

I just got the latset version from cvs, make install fails with the
error:

mkdir: cannot create directory `/python': Permission denied
make[1]: [local-install-outfiles] Error 1 (ignored)

mkdir: cannot create directory `/python': Permission denied
make[1]: *** [local-install-outfiles] Error 1

make: *** [install] Error 2
