That, to me, is not a desirable solution -- one should be able to set the instr (e.g.) as soon as a player is changing instruments, and the engraver should "do the right thing"! [Unfortunately, I don't know C++ well enough yet to do any actual coding, or even give suggestions on this... sorry!]


You'll need a separate engraver anyway, because the name not only has to be in the margin, but also in a separate text over the first note of the new instrument.
