My hunch: it might have something to do to force any assignments in
%(paper_string)s to be finalized. If not, it could happen that the
last assignment is not executed by the time the parser evaluates the
#(- line-width ... ) expression.
This construct should probably be taken out of the documentation,
unless it really trips up the parsing.
