I agree that these do look like a real bug.  This issue, however,
seems to have nothing to to with character rendering since the beams
and stems are cut off.  One would expect that LilyPond correctly keeps
track of the graphic elements that it draws itself (i.e., without
relying on information that is supplied to LilyPond from an external
source, which may contain "flawed" information like the glyph bounding
boxes).
