Problem confirmed with a freshly-built GUB binary from lilypond master
032a7f20fcf23ae1002809e4e63778029ba22df5. This includes using
fontconfig 2.8.0 in the GUB build process.
No clue about the solution, but it doesn't depend on not having 2.8.0
installed in the build environment.
