I gave up in the end and restored a backup of the VM image I had frmo
a few days ago prior to the problems but before I could still push. I
then went back through the smae process in the CG and this time it all
worked.

So I am unsure what happened.

The only difference between the backup image and the VM I was having
problems on were a load of Updates from Canonical. However, I am
sceptical that these would have caused problems, however I'll download
them all again and apply them anyway to be sure.

Thanks for all your help anyway, I learnt a bit more about ssh/Savannah etc.
