In notation/input.tely, line 1100 or so we have:

The texinfo manual says:
"Use the @var command to indicate metasyntactic variables" and so it doesn't
like the parentheses, since I assume a parenthesis cannot be part of a
variable name. As a result it throws the following warning:
notation/input.texi:1350: warning: unlikely character ( in @var.
Ignore, replace the @var with @code, or what?
