Hello,

With regard to the output of:

http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.16/Documentation/notation/predefined-fretboard-diagrams

(and also this is reflected in the PDF docs)

There are no 'Staff' lines present. However, based on this outpyt I wanted to remove the bar number indicators as they are not really needed here so I added a

\layout {} block with the appropriate context removal of the bar_number_engraver in the \score {} block; and this did indeed remove the bar numbers, but when I check the resulting make doc (and make web) I notice that I have staff lines with the chords indicated in 'normal' music notation underneath each fret diagram.

So thinking there was some subtlety lost on me by adding a \layout {} block in these predefined*.ly files, I reverted back to HEAD and recompiled without any changes and we still have Staff lines in the 2.19 tree (see attached). Then I checked with the 2.17 website links and the Staff lines appeared.

Did something change between 2.16 and now; or rather, was this intentional?

The only commit I can see that touches these files (apart from a convert.ly) is

--snip--
commit 236963781bc8cefaeb4e59b30e5e17fefafe0634
Author: David Kastrup <address@hidden>
Date: Wed Apr 3 17:30:25 2013 +0200

Issue 3290: Appendix 4, Predefined fretboard diagram: wrong chords are displayed

--snip--

and this seems to change a \context \XXX to a \new \XXX

So I am puzzled.

I think they look better without the staff.

James
