git grep simple-markup
returns a whole slew of results, including in
`Documentation/*/extending/programming-interface.itely` where the
procedure `simple-markup` is getting embedded as a value into a markup
expression.
A single-step procedure of invalidating documented coding practice
instead of a slower deprecation process seems rather impolite. It
doesn't help that translations of the docs tend to trail by varying
degrees.
