This bug in the postscript output was corrected in 1.5.14 but
the documentation at www.lilypond.org is built using 1.5.12
for the moment. Until the WWW site is update, I put a copy of
the 1.5.14 Lilypond manual at 
http://www.s3.kth.se/~matsb/lilypond/lilypond.ps.gz
(using Type1 fonts throughout the document!)
