I had this problem too. I just replaced "FLEX_STD" in that patch with
"std::" (or you could probably do a #define, but I did it the hard way:).
The ultimate goal is for the "cerr" to be "std::cerr".
I'm using Lilypond 1.7.3 with Mandrake 9.0, and it works great.
