counting percent repeats

hi all,

i don't know if this question has been asked before -- i couldn't find
it in the archives:

is there anyway to print percent repeat counts over percent repeats?

so that the output of 

\repeat percent 8 {
        r4 a a |
}

would produce percents signs labelled 1-7 after the first bar with the
notes?
