What do you intend to use it for? If you want to include a
musical example on a WWW page, use lilypond-book on your
HTML document with embedded lilypond code. If you want to
include it in a text document, you could write it in LaTeX
with embedded lilypond code and use lilypond-book.
Otherwise, you could use the --png option to ly2dvi/lilypond
or --preview to get only the first line of music.
