problems with --preview

Hi,
When invoking
lilypond --preview --verbose foo.ly
(where foo.ly could be e.g. \score{\notes c}), I always get the error
[..]

I'm using gs 8.01, debian testing.
Does anyone else have the same problem, or know any workaround?
