Do you mean something like the following?
midbar = \notes{
\once \override Score.SpanBar #'transparent = ##t
\bar "|"
}
\score {
\notes \relative c' \new StaffGroup <<
\new Staff {
a2 \midbar a2
a2 \midbar a2
}
\new Staff {
f2 f2 f2 f2
}

}
If you want the mid-measure barlines dotted, you can replace "|"
by ":".
