Fermata in the wrong place, wrong me or can't you do this?

I downloaded 2.6.1 for windows and it does a bunch of stuff much easier 
and the way the manual says it will more frequently- horray!
However-
See the example below

In Measure 9  the fermata should be over the second d and the two d's 
are tied.  The same issue in measure ten.

So can't I do that yet?
