When the run is started from the command line, then there's no failure;
except that, as I now noticed, no logfile seems to be saved. I can paste
the output from the console if you think it'll help, but that would be
from a successful run.

I noticed in the console output from the successful run that Lilypond 
defines GS_LIB as the path where the elusive gs_init.ps lives 
(C:/Programme/LilyPond/usr/bin/../share/ghostscript/8.50/lib); but 
manually assigning that path to an environment variable called GS_LIB 
does not change the results.
