It sounds like a simple idea, but it isn't. I have tried to read some
MIDI-recorded scores, and they had all kinds of peculiar rhythm mistakes in
them due to the fact that a person doesn't play like a computer. This means you
would have a lot of tedious hand editing to do, to find and fix all the crazy
errors that the MIDI recorder made. (A situation much like that with bad
voice-recognition software.)
Considering that, it might be just as simple to record to tape or to a sound
file, and work from that.
