font embedding in ps/eps files

I'm new to Lilypond.  I like LilyPond a lot, not least because I find that I
can enter rhythmically complex passages rather quickly.

I'm using LilyPond to generate eps files.  The files are used in turn by
someone who's running Adobe Illustrator.  I've been using gsview to convert
postscript files to eps files.  Problem is, the fonts aren't getting into
the files, so when they've been opened in Adobe Illustrator, the user sees
only note stems and a staff: no noteheads.  

Is this a lilypond issue or a gsview issue?  Am I missing something?
