lilypond print jobs consistently disappear to dev null

Hello,

My lilypond print jobs consistently disappear to dev null when I try to print
them with a free software tool such as kpdf or gpdf?!  My printer is a pretty
standard laser printer, (HP Lasterjet 4 with PS support) connected via
parallel cable to a CUPS server.  Most of the time it works fine, but when I
send a lilypond print job, even a relatively simple one like my empty lilypond
template file, it will flash while receiving the job, but then return to
waiting for jobs with-out printing anything.

The only way I can manage to print them is using Adobe's "acroread", which I
would prefer avoid installing on all my Ubuntu and debian computers.

Below I have links to input lilypond files, output pdf files, and the "print to
file" output of both kpdf (bad) and acroread (ok).

Thanks for any direction in correcting or diagnosing the problem!
