I feel compelled to write that this is what is so special about the open-source ethos in general. When hundreds of people are involved (maybe not with LilyPond, which is a small project by comparison) in making something, invariably there is a more robust, more divergent crop of ideas which can be developed than when a program is devised and developed by a small cadre of entrepreneurs and developers. A few of those ideas will be revolutionary. I doubt the folks at Sibelius or MakeMusic have anything close to this on their radar. When you seal yourself in a box with 10 or 12 of the "best and brightest," you're cutting yourself off from the hundred or more users and potential contributers who can really push your product to the top of the field. What a useful idea!

What an awesome idea! Can anyone figure this one out?
That would be such a useful tool.
