Yes, thanks to the excellent work of Marc Hohl.
Improved tablature has been implemented in LilyPond 2.13.4, which is not yet
released but can be built from the current git sources.
Alternatively, Marc Hohl has a file that can be included in 2.13.3 to give
improved tablature support.
Your best bet for getting help in the interim (before 2.13.4 is released) is
probably to ask on address@hidden
