To follow up on my own post, I was able to get the segno and the coda glyph at bar 31 in the correct places by moving them ahead of the first notes in the respective bars. The way the code is presented in the documentation regarding positioning of glyphs isn't clear (at least to me) and we may want to clarify it (Section 1.2.5 on page 74).

I still can't get the coda which belongs at the end of bar 28 in the right place.
