How to apply patches

Hi Carl,

I tried to apply patch 3326042 (http://codereview.appspot.com/ 
3326042/) before and after your last modification but I wasn't  
successful (Lilybuntu, LP version 2.13.41):

I have no idea what's going wrong. Maybe you can spot my mistake.  
(I'm now able to compile LilyPond and the documentation on Lilybuntu.  
Patch 2723043 (http://codereview.appspot.com/2723043/) applied  
smoothly.)
