Hi all,

I'm facing some notation challenges that aren't part of a self-devised "contest", but in way very real. I'm going to meet someone to answer his questions about how LilyPond and related tools could be integrated in the workflows of a concrete edition project. I don't know if this meeting can possibly have any particular "outcome", but _if_ it should, it would certainly not only be good for me but also for LilyPond.

The issue I'm currently thinking about is that there are sketches and drafts that have to be engraved, showing very non-standard notations.

I have scanned a few random examples from presumably similar sketches that already have been published and will ask questions about them the next days. I'm starting with a comparably non-complex one.

The attached image shows two peculiarities (apart from obvious "orthographic" issues):

- a strange mix of stem and barline.
Actually I think this originally _was_ a barline,
and together with the strikethrough the writer
made a cross-staff stem out of it.
  How would you approach this:
  - create a chord and tweak the stem to display like the attached,
    perhaps with a transparent e''
  - create a barline and somehow attach the notes to it?
- A strikethrough of parts of that line.

Actually it would be nice to have a somewhat generic solution for striking out lines, be it stems, beams or whatever.

The goal is not necessarily to find a generic solution for everything. These sketches are so individual that it's OK to find specific solutions for each case. But it should be possible to show that this kind of task is actually manageable with LilyPond.

I'd be happy about any feedback
Urs
