Uh, how does "dated appearance" (acl of animated content and flashiness,
color schemes of last season?) equate to "not very reassuring welcome"?

LilyPond's web appearance is generated from Texinfo.  Much of its look
is achieved with CSS sheets.  So there are some elements reasonably easy
to change, and some not.  You won't be able to help much without getting
acquainted with that first.

There are such sites for LilyPond but I don't remember their names right
now.  Others likely will provide some.
