Better add <> instead. Compare
\relative c' {
e1 d c\> \bar "|." s1*0\!
} \addlyrics { What is this? }

} \addlyrics { What is this? }
Since most users are not able to figure out the reason behind that
problem, recommending the use of s1*0 _particularly_ at the end of the
piece is asking for trouble.
