Hi Bryan,

you could try \newSpacingSection before/after the respective measures, 
and overriding SpacingSpanner.common-shortest-duration – I think you 
should be able to find explanation about these in the docs.
Please always give a small, but complete, compilable example to make it 
easier to provide help and test solutions.
