That's possible. I also started to get this problem with an upgrade to a newer system.

Given that it is an old version, is it likely that this will get looked at? - the ability to use old versions is quite a feature of LilyPond, after all.

Unfortunately, I think it is unlikely, especially since the build system has changed a lot since 2.20 and it could be difficult to even compile it on a reasonably current OS where you could reproduce the bug. That's not to deter anyone from trying, though. (But there is no official support for older stable versions, only the current stable version, so it is not an item for a bug report.)
