Combined single & double column

Dear louters,

I recently discovered Lout and are most impressed thus far. I've
used it to set up some system utilities as well as to prepare
seminar slides. Being a long-time latex user I'm hopeful that
writing "style-files" for Lout will be doable (rather than an
obscure art). I'd like to set up some variants of the report
style to set formatting for a few different journals.

Now to my first question. According to the documentation it is
not possible to use @FullWidth for @Abstract or @Section in
two column format. I'd like to typeset articles in two column
format and set abstracts in @FullWidth above the main sections.
Infact, I'd like to set the abstract in @ThreeQuarterWidth if
it's possible to define such a symbol.

Perhaps others (in the oceanography community?) have already 
gone to the trouble of setting up style files for assorted 
journals.

Any suggestions?
