Hmmm... no, it seems 2 characters at least are needed: if I type

   Non c'era molta acqua nell'uadi, forse%qualche pozzanghera,

I get

   Non c'era molta acqua nell'uadi, forse
                                        [pozzanghera,

The "%" macro seems to eat up the first word, if not separed by a space.
I think this happens beacause the macro is expanded:

    forse//1vx &2i [ &0qualche
