This will turn cross-referencing off.  Since @PageOf { last.page }
utilizes the cross-referencing system, you will see ?? instead
of the last page number if you use -s.

You should never need to use -x, it is for initializing the
Lout system when it is first installed.

If you had run Lout twice you should have got the last page
number at that point.  It takes two runs to find out the
last page number.  If you think about it, it is impossible
to insert the number of the last page on the first run,
because Lout has not had a chance to find out what that
last page number is until it gets to the end of the first run.
