Encodings of supplied Lout AFM files and unicode

I think the reason that I'm seeing blank glyphs is because when I view the
.otf files I have for some of these Adobe fonts in fontforge, the encodings
in the AFM file don't match that of the AFM. I tried searching for Lout
and unicode, but how do you cope with this when you want to use a font like
this say in ghostscript?

Thanks,

-Clint
