Colin, I viewed your own PostScript file (gaps.ps) here and also
printed it out. I saw no gaps at all. I think you have a font
substitution problem.

The only Symbol font I'm aware of on my system is Apple's own. (I did
not install Ghostscript's replacement fonts, so there's no chance of
that particular substitution.) But that doesn't mean they couldn't
have fiddled with the font somehow, so it isn't standard anymore.
Or, of course, it could still be my mistake somehow. Musn't forget to
look at that.
